The Magic Stick
Detroit
Retro-rockers, Dum Dum Girls, rolled into Detroit as part of a U.S. tour to support their new EP, He Gets Me High (out 03/01/11 via Sup Pop). With Brooklyn’s Minks and Vancouver’s Dirty Beaches opening, the foursome delivered about 60 minutes of reverb-fueled sonic delight.
Highs & Lows
- Alex Hungtai of Dirty Beaches covering Johnny Cash and combing his greased up pompadour between songs
- The incredibly tight sound of Minks
- Dum Dum Girls opening with The Rolling Stones “Play With Fire” and closing with The Smith’s “There Is A Light”
- Dee Dee of Dum Dum Girls sarcastically referencing the crowd’s “enthusiasm” early on in the set
- The super intoxicated blonde chick that was desperately trying to turn the event into a Rage Against the Machine show. How’s your hangover?
